Tis the season… to get ahead on social media!

What’s the one thing you don’t want to be doing over the festive season? You got it, working! Having to check and post on social every day over the holidays is a pain many of us have experienced. But you still want to run an amazing, eye-catching campaign that keeps your followers engaged. So, what can you do to elevate some of the stress?

Here are a few of our top-tips for managing your social media over Christmas and the New Year.

5 Top Tips For Managing Social Media Over The Christmas Break

1. Keep an eye on your competitors

2. Utilise social scheduling tools

3.  Have conversations about Christmas

4. Deck the halls - make your profiles festive!

5. Run a campaign or competition

1. Keep An Eye On Your Competitors

You don’t need to be told that keeping an eye on what your competitors are up to is an important aspect of any business. When it comes to social media that is no different. What are your top competitors doing on social media right now? How many times a day are they posting? Who are they following, posting and including in conversations. And how can you do it better?

Keep an eye on what other companies are doing using social media monitoring tools this Christmas period and take it into account when planning your campaigns for 2019.

2. Utilise Social Scheduling Tools

There are lots of great social scheduling tools out there these days, making taking a break from the screen much easier than ever before. Most free scheduling platforms now allow for Instagram posting too. If you haven’t set up your training businesses Instagram account yet, here’s why you should.

4 of our favourite, free scheduling platforms are:

  1. Buffer – An easy to use, intuitive platform with handy, suggested scheduling times.
  2. Hootsuite – The Granddaddy of all scheduling platforms, allows you to post from 3 social profiles and schedule up-to 30 posts at a time.
  3. Tweetdeck – If you’re mainly focused on Twitter for your social posting, then Tweet-deck is definitely the program for you. You can even manage multiple Twitter accounts in one place.
  4. SocialPilot – Much like Buffer, SocialPilot allows multiple channel scheduling, with ten posts a day allowed on the free option.

3. Have Conversations About Christmas

Keeping your followers engaged over the Festive period, while they’re all off work and sat around social scrolling is the perfect time to strike up a conversation and develop some good rapport. Understandably, this involves a little bit of working during your time off, but if that notification pops up on your phone, don’t ignore it - it could be your next big client. And let’s face it, it’s only between commenting on that or that cute dog picture that just popped up.

4. Deck The Halls

Decorating your social profiles for Winter/Christmas is the perfect way to say, “Hey, I’m up-to-date and responsive”. Whether it’s a fun Christmas jumper picture from the office, or a full-on refurb of your logo and page banners; it lets people know that you’re engaged and contactable. We all know someone who’s profile hasn’t been updated since 2009, and we also know that person ‘hardly ever uses Facebook’. So, let your followers know without any doubt, that you’re open for business this Christmas.

5. Run A Campaign Or Competition

This requires a little planning before-hand, and you need to take your target-market into consideration when planning. Here's 3 ways to leverage competitions and campaigns this Christmas:

  1. Giveaways are always popular over the festive period. If you’re running some sort of competition, the best way to build followers and interest is to share it in as many relevant groups as you are able. Make sure you get the most benefit out of the post - whether that’s requiring people to sign up with their emails or share with their friends. However, there are specific rules when running a competition on Facebook in-particular, which it would be wise to read up on before you start.
  2. Encourage user generated content (UGC). Getting your followers to do the hard work for you is not only a great free content generator, it’s also a fantastic way of developing engagement on your social channels. Anything you come up with will have to be relevant to your field of course, but try to make it Christmassy. Can people tag you in their Christmas jumper pics to win something? What about a Christmas training selfie? Get creative and make sure you share and interact as much as possible.
  3. Offers and discounts are a big thing in December and January. Think about how you can tap into the buying mentality for your training company. Schedule a discount code promotion that runs in January so potential buyers are incentivised to purchase as a Christmas gift or when feeling the pinch in the new year!

P.S. Don’t forget about existing customers – remember it will always be easier to retain and grow business from existing customers than landing new ones, so don’t neglect them!
